Ontario Loud is a political commentary podcast hosted by Chris Martin, Sam Andrey, Kate Hammer, and Alexi White. Between the four of us, we have given policy, political, and communications advice to Cabinet Ministers and Premiers.

Ontario Loud is an open conversation about life under the Ford government, the implications of government decisions, and the kinds of policies we think could make things better for people in Ontario and Canada.

We have a short discussions on a (hopefully) weekly basis about issues that matter in Ontario in a way that informs, critiques and reflects on current affairs.

You may have noticed that politics in 2018 can be ugly - even here in Ontario. As we give this internet-radio thing a try, here’s what we can promise:

  • We’ll keep it positive… but critical: There’s no way around critiquing the Ford government, but we’ll give credit where it’s due, and talk about policy alternatives that could paint a more positive future.
  • We’ll keep it informative… but acknowledge what we don’t know: We all have policy, communications, and political experience, but we don’t know everything. That’s why we’ll seek out expert advice and cite external evidence and research to back up our discussions.
  • We’ll keep it progressive… but will try not to be too partisan: We’re all recovering Liberal staffers who have put a lot into supporting a progressive vision for Ontario. However, that doesn’t mean we check our brains at the door, ignore valid criticisms of the party, or don’t want to hear from non-Liberals on the show.

This is also probably a good place to clarify that this is not a production of the Liberal Party, federal or provincial.

We don’t have key messages, we haven’t run this by them.

Feel free to get in touch with us to share your thoughts and opinions on our discussions. We hope you tune in!

Who is Ontario Loud?

Chris Martin: Chris is the host of Ontario Loud and and a former Senior Policy Advisor to two Education Ministers covering some totally fun and non-controversial flies like school closures and student transportation. Chris loves adventure, good food and fancies himself a sommelier.

Kate Hammer: Kate is a former Globe & Mail journalist and political staffer who served as a key policy advisor to Premier Kathleen Wynne. A recent resident of British Columbia, Kate is discovering the joys of the west coast while we all languish under Doug Ford back in Central Canada. Kate has a wonderful family with two kids, and a magical dog named Winnie who is just the best.

Sam Andrey: Sam served as a key advisor to Ontario’s Minister of Education from 2014 to 2018, including as Director of Policy and Chief of Staff. At Education, he helped Ontario’s Liberal government raise graduation rates to historic highs and other “failed ideological experiments.” Sam lives and works in Toronto with his partner and dogs Maya and Kona.

Alvin Tedjo: Alvin is a leader in the Oakville community and ran as the Liberal candidate for MPP of Oakville North–Burlington in the 2018 election. He is a passionate advocate for more affordable child care options and Apple products, and he previously advised the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. Alvin and his better half Rebecca have three adorable young kids all in Ontario public schools and drive around in a sweet hybrid minivan.

Alexi White: Alexi is a passionate advocate for those with less, but this good trait is balanced by thinking Star Trek is way better than Star Wars. He likes classical music, is an only child, and is married to Audra. Alexi was educated at Harvard and Queen’s universities, and has advised the Ministers of Community and Social Services, Education, and the President of the Treasury Board.
